Disruption in power supply
ITANAGAR, May 23: The people of C Sector area here have been facing innumerable problems due to disruption in power supply. According to sources, erratic power supply badly affected the broadcasting of news and various other programmes of All India Radio (AIR), Itanagar today. It is worth mentioning here that AIR requires 24 hours power supply to continue its news and other programmes.
GB dies
ITANAGAR, May 23: All Doimukh Gaon Burah Welfare Association has mourned the death of GB Tana Tonium. Late Tonium died on 22nd May at his residence. He is survived by four sons and two daughters. Born on 5th June 1936, late Tanium was appointed as GB in 1968. He was actively involved in various developmental works in Doimukh area.

Association demands early conduction of interview
ITANAGAR May 23: All Arunachal Pradesh Diploma Holder in Elementary Education Association has demanded the State Project Director of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) to conduct interview against more than 200 sanctioned posts of assistant teachers.
Claiming that there are enough numbers of trained teachers, it questioned the department why so much time was being wasted.
Association also claimed that education minister has assured them that no untrained teachers would be appointed.
GCIF seeks veterinary team
ITANAGAR May 23: Gangte Circle Intellectual Forum (GCIF) today informed that there has been a foot and mouth disease outbreak in Rei and Riaga village. It demanded the district animal and husbandry and veterinary department to send its officials to contain the disease. It also claimed that in spite of repeated pleas, the department is not initiating any action.

Field day on Hybrid maize variety
ITANAGAR, May 23: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, East Siang conducted field day on hybrid maize variety “All Rounder” and “DKC 8010” at FLD Sikatode village. The programme was a part of front line demonstration on maize which is carried out by Kendra on 5 hectare area. It was sponsored by Integrated scheme on Oil palm, pulse, oilseed and maize, New Delhi.
Toge Riba SMS, plant protection coordinated the FLD programme and lectured on importance of hybrid variety.
Talem Minki FLD maize farmer shared his experience on hybrid crop farming among fellow farmer and highlighted the importance of scientific farming over traditional farming. He also highlighted KVK intervention on FLD maize programme at various stages of crop.
Nabum Yadi, Programme Assistant delivered lecture on pest and disease management of maize and rice and also emphasized on scientific rising of Paddy nursery. Altogether 35 farmers participated in the programme and Paddy seed variety “Cauri” were distributed to each farmer.
BBK, BBYK denounce DC transfer
Pasighat, May 23: The Bogong Banggo Kebang and Bogong Banggo Yameng Kebang in a release today opposed the untimely transfer of East Siang DC Talem Tapok.
Citing the premature transfer, the Kebang said that his transfer has halted various development process in the district.
“Being a local of the area, Tapok has been frequently emphasising on area’s development during his eight months tenure”, said BBK president Oyem Dai.

Parl. Secy attends dev. meeting
ITANAGAR, May 23: Yachuli MLA and Parliamentary Secretary Likha Saaya laid the foundation of the upgraded Dodo ME School under Yazali circle in Lower Subansiri district in presence of RWD Executive Engineer, Ziro division Toko Ottu on May 19 last.
Attending the second village development meeting, Saaya assured the villagers to provide drinking water supply at Toll and Tanio, construct a RCC bridge over Panye river linking Tanio with Toll village, provide Rs 10 lakh for developing a football ground at ME school and MIC channel from Toll to Gugi (Approx 4 km).
The villagers appreciated Saaya for his assurance to provide these basic amenities and other development activities for the welfare of people of his constituency.

APCC orientation programme
ITANAGAR, May 23: The two days orientation workshop on flagship programme of UPA I & II of Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee concluded today.
Heads of implementing agencies of various flagship programmes, PCC office bearers, heads of Congress frontal organizations and DCC/CCC presidents were present in the programme.
The 2nd day of the programme was graced by Chief Minister Nabam Tuki and APCC President Mukut Mithi. Tuki gave away the certificates to the participants in the orientation workshop.
Sellers flee as Forest dept raids markets

ITANAGAR, May 23: Days after this daily carried a news highlighting sell of wild meat in the markets of capital, today forest officials swung into action and conducted raid in Ganga market, Itanagar.
During the raid officials seized carcass of wild animals including that of one barking deer and 8 porcupines.
Forest officials led by G Doke, range forest officer (RFO), Poma Wildlife Range carried out the raid. The forest team was assisted by capital police comprising of civil police, IRBn and CRPF jawans.

He further added, “We would like to appeal to the market welfare committees of capital to be more vigilant in this regard. They should create awareness among vegetable vendors regarding illegal selling of wild animal in market. Market Welfare Committees can also help arrest the poachers by providing us information about their activities.”

Later in the afternoon, a post mortem was done by the veterinary officials and carcass was buried by the forest officials.
It is disheartening to know that despite best effort put in by forest officials, meats of wild animal are being rampantly sold in various markets of capital. Majority of the buyers are officers and well educated businessmen who know that selling of wild animal meat is illegal. The citizen of Arunachal has to understand that these wild animals are assets of the state. Many of them are on the verge of extinction and if such rampant killing continues, very soon jungles of Arunachal will be without any wild animals.

Besides directing the PCCF to take the responsible officers and officials to task, Tuki issued directives to book the culprits involved in such killings and selling of wild animal under the relevant forest laws.
In response to the orders issued from the Chief Minister, PCCF and Principal Secretary Environment and Forest B S Sajwan has issued a show cause notice to the responsible DFOs and Range Officers asking them to explain as to why disciplinary action should not be initiated against them for dereliction of duties. He has sought the reply within a time frame of one week. He has further sounded red alert to his department officers to avoid recurrence of wildlife offense of such serious nature in near future.

Torrential rain creates havoc in Khonsa
KHONSA, May 23: As it is, Khonsa is famous or should we call ‘infamous’ for heavy rain, especially during the monsoon. But the torrential rains here on May 21 was unprecedented which left a trail of destruction at many locations in the Tirap district headquarters Khonsa. Some thatched dwelling houses were destroyed completely. Many portions of newly laid Township roads were damaged badly. The roads are now filled with mud and boulders brought in by the flooding rain waters and drains have been blocked resulting in overflowing of water on the roads.
The district administration is not at all prepared for such eventualities for want of man power, trained personnel, machineries and utter lack of awareness among the residents. It may be mentioned here that Khonsa is crisscrossed by a number of streams and the entire Township is prone to landslide. Unauthorized construction of private houses and roads on the bank of these streams is only compounding the problem of Khonsa.
If something is not done urgently now more disasters can strike the Township.
Parliamentary Secretary for DoTC, SWWCD Yumsen Matey has expressed concern over the damages caused by the recent heavy rain and asked the administration to remain alert adding that the assets of the Township must be saved at any cost.
He asked the residents to follow the laid down norms and government guidelines while
constructing their houses. He further said that creation of awareness among the people
is of paramount importance to save life and properties during natural calamities.
This is just the beginning of the rainy season. We can well imagine what will happen

ITANAGAR, May 23: The Arunachal Pradesh Karate team won six medals, including a gold
in the just concluded 24th Junior and Cadet National Karate-
While Master Nikam Sono won a Gold medal in 70 kg cadet category, Bamang Yakum and Likha Lej won a Silver medal each in 54 kg junior and 52 kg cadet category respectively.
Goda Ash, Ribyalu Kri and Dongro Dodum bagged a bronze medal each. Bulang Marik was the team coach cum manager while Rajnita Rotom and Rakom Dugi were the Female team coach and Assistant team coach (male) respectively.

Govt announces vehicle subsidy for unemployed youths
ITANAGAR, May 23: The Chief Minister today announced 25% subsidy on purchase of commercial vehicle by unemployed youth of the state through the MoA between Arunachal Pradesh State Cooperative Apex Bank and All Arunachal Pradesh Public Transport Federation.
Chief Minister Nabam Tuki made the announcement this evening when All Arunachal Pradesh Public Transport Federation (AAPPTF) led by its president Takar Goi and General Secretary Dobing Sonam met him this evening to apprise about the grievances of commercial vehicle owners and drivers and other transport related matters.
It is worth mentioning that Apex Bank and AAPPTF had signed the MoA to provide loan to unemployed AAPPTF members. Meanwhile, responding to their demands for creation of two deputy Director posts, eight DTOs and favorable numbers of MVIs post along with other office staff and vehicle to each DTOs, Tuki assured action within this financial year.
Regarding other demands like review of reciprocal transport agreement between government of Arunachal Pradesh and government of Assam (corridor agreement) 1999 Tuki assured that the matter will be discussed with Assam government for early review of the agreement and a special plying permit would be issued to transport operators of Arunachal Pradesh by state government which will cover both Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
He also assured that demand for reduction of double taxation of 12.5% VAT on purchase of vehicles from other state would be placed in next cabinet meeting for necessary discussion and reduction of existing 10 years road tax to 6 years will also be taken up with concerned authority in due course of time.

ITANAGAR, May 23: The Papum Pare District Water and Sanitation Committee in collaboration with N N Charitable Society (NNCS) launched an awareness campaign on the IEC component of TSC under Toru circle on May 21.
Addressing the launching ceremony at Ompuli PWD Inspection Bungalow, NNCS project officer Techi Ragi Tara called upon the community people to maintain health and hygiene in everyday life. He said community people should conduct social service to clean up their surroundings to prevent communicable diseases like diarrhea, cholera and malaria. The need of the hour is to construct Individual Household Latrine (IHL) and its proper use for disease free life, he said.
Tamang village GB Changkung Tache expressed hope that the knowledge gained from the campaign will help the villagers to maintain hygienic life. He also lauded the District Water Sanitation Committee and NNCS for launching awareness campaign for the benefit of villagers.
Kenglo village GPM Taba Yatum appealed the authority to implement the scheme under total sanitation campaign immediately after awareness campaign. She also urged the ASHAs and Anganwadi workers to bring awareness among the villagers about the need of maintaining cleanliness.

Internal security versus international boundary
Dear Editor,
It is sad and disappointing to know that despite numerous life-
On one hand, we have a government sending a mammoth contingent of military personnel to the eastern border to match up to our eastern neighbour and on the other hand, the same military contingent passes through the reserves of Manabhum and Tengapani forest and yet do nothing to clear up the pests and rodents that have been threatening the very core of a human being's basic right; peace and security.
From a layman's standpoint, I ask the government why this military strength cannot
be diverted to Manabhum-
Militancy, crime and terror survives and thrives on the platform of locally fed emotional, ethnic, social and moral support, necessitated by a common cause to both the militants and the sponsoring locals.
But in case of Namsai-
Why is the government not acting, despite the locals' endorsement? Is internal security not as important as that of safeguarding an international boundary?
It is high time the minister, legislatures and the public leaders of the area do someting tough to coerce the government into taking decisions that will be favorable.
My request to the government is that do not delay in taking drastic steps. Nip it in its bud before its tentacles spread out.

Dear Editor,
The article published on opium menace is very timely and appreciable. British used Opium to create disunity among North Easterners. Presently, though we have an elected government, they too are unable to find an amicable solution.
In my opinion, until and unless the local youths shall not be conscious regarding the menace, no campaign or direction can stop the Mishmis from opium cultivation.
I have been serving in this region for about 15 years and found many opium addicts and cultivators who agreed that, opium is a menace but they cannot stop taking or cultivating it as it is a source of economy. I thus believe, by educating the people some success can be achieved. But destructing their fields is not the solution.
Secondly, the Government can set up some rehabilitation camps in selected areas for

It is sad to read that mithuns in Chayang Tajo areas are gripped under Foot and Mouth disease (FMD) epidemic. Although, animal husbandry and veterinary dept has taken up steps, in order to prevent and reduce such occurrence, more need to be done to contain further outbreak of the disease in the state. To save the mithuns, there should be efforts to completely eradicate the problem.

Restrain them from going haywire
Dear Editor,
I am writing this letter in response to your news article titled -
As a matter of fact, you, I and everyone in the State vaguely know who were behind these enumerable extortion cases.
Especially this year in Tawang, the threats on HODs were more evident. However, the fact remains that all the coercion demands were from outside not a single one from local Monpas.
Sonam Tenzin, the VP of AAPSU having raised the issue, it's worth giving a buzzer to the apex students' union that most of the terrorizations were from students and related unions.
Through this newspaper, I would like to request the students union to restrain students from going haywire.
It is worth informing him that there has been volunteered vitalization of public property by some students in the district on May 18 bandh call. What is incomprehensible, is a bandh called for the benefit of the people going against its very primary objective. It's like you are continuously trying to cease problems but yet continuously doing all the things that will create problems.
In a democratic country every citizen is equally responsible for creating peace and havoc.

Through your daily, I would like draw the attention of our concern authorizes as well as the concern citizens of twin capital regarding law and order problem. When we visit our nearest daily markets, we see varieties of wild meat being sold in the markets. If this is not a law and order problem then what exactly is law and order problem?
Anyways we know our authorities and how it works and what will be its consequence, so better we the concern citizens of this state stand against the violators of wild life Act.
Citizens need to check from where the wild meat comes from and inform the concern authorities so that action can be initiated.
I personally feel such an act would deter people from selling wild meat. So I urge all the concern citizens to raise their voice so that we have a safe and healthy environment for the growth of wild animals. Lastly I would once again request our concern authorities to show some responsibility towards wild life.

Dear Editor,
We are very much grateful to East Seppa MLA Tapuk Taku and Bameng MLA and Parliamentary secretary, PWD, Kumar Waii. Both the dignitaries kept their words towards infrastructure development for the wellbeing of Seppa Govt College.
While participating at the inaugural function of the Ist ever District Level Teachers Trophy Tournament at Seppa, MLA Taku had assured to provide college street light. Now the concern department has started necessary works for providing the same.
Similarly, Waii, who took part in the closing ceremony of the tournament, had fulfilled his commitment. Now, college ground leveling work will start.
